Virtual Learning Academy

LCHS  Virtual Learning Academy (VLA)   2020-21

Overview

Families will have the option during the 2020-21 school year to choose a virtual learning option for their children at LCHS at no cost to families. Regardless of each family’s choice, we are committed to providing access to the best educational experience possible to prepare all of our students for their next steps.

Course selection

  • Students’ virtual schedules will be completed based on course requests they submitted in February
  • Students will be enrolled in virtual core classes (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) with LCHS teachers as virtual instructors
  • Elective courses will have LCHS teachers as virtual instructors when applicable

Platforms (content and personalization)

  • Edgenuity is the primary source for content-based instruction (50% of the overall grade)
  • Google Classroom will be utilized by classroom teachers for personalization through supplemental lessons and daily/weekly interactions with students (50% of the overall grade)

Requirements

  • Reliable internet access, capable of streaming videos and accessing online content
  • Internet accessible device(s) – LCHS will loan Chromebooks to families, as needed
  • Completion of weekly assignments through both the content-based (Edgenuity) and personalized (Google Classroom) platforms
  • Virtual attendance at weekly meetings for each course taken (6-8 separate classes/meetings)

Recommended

  • Commitment of at least one semester (easier transitions to elective content)

Important considerations

  • Not all LCHS/CTC career pathway/dual credit/AP courses can be offered virtually
  • Content-based lessons and personalized instruction will be accessible and the assignments will be due in weekly increments
  • VLA students are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities (sports);  but co-curricular activities (clubs/programs) are subject to guidelines set forth by the respective organizations
  • VLA students will receive the same quality content and personalization regardless of the light (green, yellow, or red) the district is on
  • Meals will be available via pick-up from district schools; details will be provided at a later date

Choosing VLA or “in-person”

  • All students (new and returning) must register via Infinite Campus this year, where you will indicate whether you want to attend in-person or virtually.
